A$476.4m in one government file. A 9:30am court hearing in another.

Both records point to ACFS Port Logistics Pty Limited, ACN 603 120 047.

The first figure comes from the ATO’s corporate tax-transparency data: A$476.4m in total income for 2023–24. The series records A$479.5m in 2022–23, A$438.9m in 2021–22 and reaches back to A$219.4m in 2015–16.

The court date comes from ASIC. A winding-up application published on 30 July lists a Federal Court hearing for 9:30am on 7 August. The applicant is Evolution MIT Services Pty Ltd as trustee for the A-Star Bigfoot Logistics Property Trust 1.

Then the ACN produces the day’s real twist: this was the second winding-up application published against ACFS in two days. The Deputy Commissioner of Taxation appeared as applicant in the 29 July notice. Both notices list the same hearing date and time.

The Evolution application was commenced on 24 April and published 97 days later, eight days before the listed hearing. That is an awkward split-screen: nine years of scale in one public file, two pending applications in another, and the ACN as the only stable join between them.

The combined record establishes neither insolvency nor exposure. A winding-up application seeks a court order; it is not a liquidation appointment or finding. ATO total income is not cash, profit, debt or recoverable value. What the records establish is narrower and more useful: the same substantial operating entity appears in both.

The register in 60 seconds

ASIC published 126 notices covering 120 entities on 30 July. One notice named more than one company, expanding the source material to 127 company rows.

  • 40 newly published distress entries

  • 32 procedural filings on matters already open

  • 26 winding-up applications, which seek court orders and are not findings of insolvency

  • 12 companies moving to another stage of an existing process

  • 10 members’ voluntary liquidations, which are solvent processes

  • 0 practitioner replacements

Thirteen of the 40 new distress entries carry an appointment or resolution date of 30 July itself. The remainder were dated earlier and published that day: the median delay was one day, and the longest was 125 days.

A flat count would call all 120 entity records new insolvencies. The register supports 40.

Also on the tape

Whyalla’s steelworks appeared as a meeting notice. Its public footprint is considerably larger. OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Limited entered administration in February 2025. The 30 July filing records a virtual committee-of-inspection meeting for 6 August. Separate public records connect the same entity to the Whyalla Steelworks, 1.19m tonnes of covered safeguard emissions in 2023–24, a workforce band of 1,000–4,999 and a historical payment-times report in which 53.2% of invoices were paid after 60 days. None changes the filing’s classification: this is a procedural notice on an administration already under way. Together, they explain why an otherwise routine meeting notice carries more weight than its form suggests.

A$746m of income sat inside a solvent liquidation. ETG COMMODITIES PTY LTD recorded A$746.4m in total income in the ATO’s 2023–24 data. Its 30 July appearance was a members’ voluntary liquidation, with Amanda Coneyworth and Philip Quinlan appointed. An MVL is a solvent process, not a newly published distress entry. The large number makes the distinction more important, not less: “liquidation” alone does not classify the event.

Newly published distress

The register carried 40 newly published distress entries. Those carrying a former or operating name lead the list. Dates are from the notices.

Bottom line

ACFS turns one of the day’s 26 court applications into a scale-and-timing record: A$476.4m in reported total income, two applications published on consecutive days, a matter commenced 97 days before publication and a hearing listed eight days after it. Neither the applications nor the income figure establishes insolvency, exposure or outcome. The significance lies in the convergence on one ACN.
