North Resources. Stonehenge Metals. Protean Wave Energy. Protean Energy. Now Aurora Rare Earths is in administration.

Four of those five names are former names, and all of them belong to one ACN 119 267 391. On 3 August the directors of that company appointed an administrator.

The company is Aurora Rare Earths Limited, and it did not go in alone. One combined notice, published 5 August, placed five companies into voluntary administration: Aurora Rare Earths, Ginja Minerals Pty Ltd, Protean Energy Australia Pty Ltd, Protean Power Pty Ltd and SK Energy Metals Pty Ltd. Mathieu Tribut of Mackay Goodwin is administrator of all five, appointed by each company under section 436A.

Then the filing produces its own trap. Two of those five companies have, at different times, been called Protean Energy. ACN 119 267 391, the listed parent, was Protean Energy Ltd until late 2024. ACN 143 809 803 was Protean Energy Pty Ltd before it became Protean Energy Australia, and public company records list it among the parent's subsidiaries. One word of legal suffix separates a parent from its subsidiary inside one filing, and an invoice, guarantee or contract that says only "Protean Energy" does not say which of them it belongs to.

The first company's history explains why old paperwork is scattered so widely. It was registered in Western Australia in April 2006 and listed on the ASX as POW that December. The register holds four former names against the ACN: North Resources, Stonehenge Metals, Protean Wave Energy and Protean Energy. Its shares were suspended in October 2022. In November 2024 shareholders approved the change to Aurora Rare Earths, alongside a proposed acquisition of rare-earth and niobium exploration ground in James Bay, Canada. A later announcement to the market records the termination of that agreement and the withdrawal of the prospectus. The name stayed. In December 2024 the ASX delisted the company, recording that its securities had been suspended from trading for more than two years.

Two of the other companies carry their own earlier identities. Protean Power was Australian Sustainable Energy Corporation. Protean Energy Australia was Protean Energy Pty Ltd. Ginja Minerals and SK Energy Metals carry no former name on the register. This is a group administration rather than five coincidences: public company records for the listed parent name SK Energy Metals, Protean Power and Protean Energy Australia among its subsidiaries. Ginja Minerals is not named in that source, and the notice itself records only the shared filing, administrator and date.

The dates are the part to act on. Proofs and proxies are due by 4:00pm AWST on 12 August, and the first meeting of creditors runs at 10:00am AWST on 13 August, virtual only.

What the record delivers is a finished identity set: five companies, six historical names, one administrator and one appointment date, connected by ACN rather than by wording. What it does not deliver is a reason. Nothing published states why the directors appointed an administrator, and a name change approved by shareholders and announced to the market is a public act, not a concealment.

No further ACFS notice has been published since 30 July. The Daily Cargo News reported on 5 August that managing director Arthur Tzaneros says the company is trading profitably and clearly solvent, intends to oppose the Commissioner's application, and that a third application, by Transurban, was filed and later withdrawn. That third one never reached the register: an application resolved before its publication requirement bites leaves no notice behind.

A court-transcription collapse reached its formal end this week. Five VIQ entities moved from administration into liquidation by resolution dated 5 August: VIQ Australia Pty Ltd, VIQ Pty Ltd, VIQ Solutions Pty Ltd, VIQ Australia Services Pty Ltd and VIQ Solutions Australia Pty Ltd. Administrators were appointed to all five on 16 March. The collapse itself has been public for months. The Canadian-listed parent announced on 4 June that the Australian business would wind down after no buyer was found; the Federal Court of Australia gave notice on 10 June that VIQ would accept transcript orders only to 30 June before moving to other vendors and in-house transcriptionists; trade coverage reported roughly 600 staff and 200 courtrooms affected, and a February data-access disclosure preceding it all. Triangle Energy's creditors have one day left to seek a committee seat. TRIANGLE ENERGY ONSHORE PTY LTD and Triangle Energy Offshore Pty Ltd each published notice of a meeting of the committee of inspection, held 6 August at Level 3, 101 St Georges Terrace, Perth, with proofs due the same day. The Open Register led its 22 July issue on this matter, when Triangle Energy and five related companies entered administration. Fifteen days later the process has reached the stage where creditors decide who represents them. The register shows the sequence; it says nothing about the administration's likely outcome.

Today's register rewards matching on the number rather than the words. Five companies entered administration on one notice, two of them separated only by a legal suffix, and six historical names across them span two decades of paperwork. A search on any single name finds part of it; a search on the ACNs finds all of it. What it does not establish is any reason for the appointments, or any relationship the register does not record.
