Weren't Mundella and Margaret River Dairy saved last August?

Yes. Administrators from Mackay Goodwin went in on 3 June 2025, creditors voted unanimously for a deed of company arrangement, and the coverage said the brands had been saved. The three companies are not strangers sharing a date. In January 2024 The West Australian reported that The Cheeky Cow, a Busselton dairy business, had bought Margaret River Dairy and Mundella, bringing the brands back after years under the Chinese group Bright Food, which had bought Mundella from the Hector family in 2014.

The deal ran for eleven months and fifteen days.

On 6 August ASIC published three separate notices, one for each company, each recording a deemed special resolution to wind up under section 446A. Mundella Foods Pty Ltd, ACN 055 862 774. The Margaret River Dairy Company Pty Ltd, ACN 054 628 723. The Cheeky Cow (WA) Pty Ltd, ACN 658 648 330. Andrew Quinn, Shaun Fernando and Mathieu Tribut are liquidators of all three.

The register holds the shape of it, and the symmetry is the point. All three entered administration on 3 June 2025 with Andrew Quinn appointed to each, all three executed deeds on 22 August 2025, and all three resolved to wind up on 6 August 2026. Not one of the three ACNs carries any other appointment on the insolvency register.

And the eleven months were not quiet. In July 2025 The West Australian and Countryman both reported that Mundella's debts had surged beyond A$16 million. The ABC reported in June 2025 that workers said they were owed superannuation, and that the environmental regulator was investigating the company over reports of alleged wastewater dumping. The factories were advertised for sale. Then, in the final weeks, Western Australia's Department of Water and Environmental Regulation issued a prevention notice on 29 May 2026 and an environmental protection notice under section 65 on 12 June 2026, the second naming Mundella Foods Pty Ltd by its ACN. Countryman reported on 8 June that the regulator had warned further escalation was possible.

None of that appears on an insolvency search. A file updated in August 2025 to read "deed executed, matter resolved" stayed clean through all of it, and stopped being accurate this morning without anything in the file changing.

That is the distinction worth carrying out of this. A deed of company arrangement is not an outcome, it is a stage, and the signals that it is failing surface somewhere other than the insolvency register: in a regulator's notice list, in a rural masthead, in a commercial property listing. They were all public. They were just in four different places.

The identity work matters here too, and one piece of it needs care. Margaret River Dairy's ACN carries five former names: Fine Food Club, Manassen Fine Foods (Invest), Manassen Foods Pty Ltd, The Margaret River Cheese Company and Wetherill (Vic). Manassen Foods is a substantial Australian food business that trades today. That name sits in this ACN's history and says nothing whatever about any current business using it. Mundella's ACN was formerly Terrared Pty Ltd, and it has been registered in Western Australia since April 1992. Cheeky Cow, registered in 2022, carries no other name on the register.

What the record establishes is a chronology and a set of identifiers: three ACNs, one administration date, one deed date, one liquidation date, three liquidators, and a run of public warnings alongside them. What it does not establish is why the deeds ended. A regulator's notice requires something to be done; it is not a finding of an offence, and nothing published connects it to the liquidation. The group relationship rests on the reported January 2024 purchase and the shared filings; the corporate shareholding between the three ACNs is not recorded in any register read here.

An energy retailer is winding up a Melbourne venue group, and it does this a lot. Origin Energy Electricity Limited has applied to wind up Harbour Enterprise Pty Ltd, ACN 633 800 423, with a Supreme Court hearing at 10:30am on 19 August. The company carries nine business names, among them Positano Melbourne, Capri @ the Quays, Marina Bay Cafe & Restaurant and Mr Hobson. The part a single notice cannot show: this is Origin's 68th winding-up application in the register since August 2025, filed in batches, most often against hospitality and grocery businesses. An application seeks a court order and is not a finding of insolvency.

A deed produces a headline saying a business was saved, and then produces nothing when it ends. Three Western Australian food companies took that deal on one day last August and left it on one day this August. The warning signs were all public and none of them were on an insolvency search: a debt figure in a masthead, a superannuation complaint on the ABC, factories advertised for sale, two notices on a state regulator's list. Anyone holding a claim, a supply agreement or a credit limit against Mundella Foods, The Margaret River Dairy Company or The Cheeky Cow has a file that stopped being accurate today. What the evidence does not establish is why the deeds ended, and a regulatory notice is not a finding of an offence.
