Your invoice says Empire Hotel Opco. Which company do you search?

Picture an unpaid invoice with EMPIRE HOTEL OPCO PTY LTD in the customer box. Which company do you open?

The obvious answer is Empire OpCo Pty Ltd. It is the wrong ACN.

Empire Hotel Opco is the former name of the company now called Claridge OpCo. The company now called Empire OpCo used to be Oxford House Opco.

Both were among eighteen companies in the JAGA structure behind the Public Hospitality Group venues, headed by JAGA HoldCo Pty Ltd, ACN 673 596 908, which passed a deemed special resolution to wind up on 7 August under section 446A(5)(b). ASIC published it on 10 August. Ryan Nathan Rabbitt, Jennifer Anne Nettleton and Scott David Harry Langdon are liquidators of all eighteen.

That administration began on 30 September 2025, with receivers appointed by senior secured lenders the same day.

The word Empire sits on four of the eighteen ACNs: two carry it now, two carried it before.

Search that name today and no company carries it. Search Empire OpCo instead and a different company answers.

Two more in the same filing never named a venue at all. 8 Campbell Parade Operations Pty Ltd carries fourteen registered business names, among them Bondi House, Gelataio and Mambo Italiano Bondi. 28 Flinders Street Pty Ltd carries two, Bird Cage Bar and House of Hornecker.

So one notice carries three failure modes for a name search. The name moved. The name never described the venue. Or it does, and happens to be right. The ACN is the only column that means one thing.

On the same date, twelve companies in the Zen Energy structure passed the same kind of resolution, published the same day, with Robert Smith and Jason Preston as liquidators.

They span Zen Energy Pty Ltd and its Retail, Wholesale, Finance, Derivatives, Holdings, Markets and Environmental entities, plus Zen Transport Fuels, Zen Metals and Sunshot Industries. Three appear in the ATO's corporate-transparency data, the largest Zen Energy Retail at A$408 million of total income in 2021-22.

Thirty companies, two notices, one resolution date, and nothing recorded connecting the two groups beyond that date.

Both filings are transitions. All thirty companies were already inside an administration, so not one is a new distress entry, and a headline built on new distress entries would miss both groups.

Today the register carried 40 entities that moved stage, 27 percent of the day. Among captured 2026 days with at least 50 entities, that is the highest transition share; the next was 23.7 percent on 15 January.

A transition is where an existing file goes stale. Administration became liquidation, and the claims process, deadlines and questions facing creditors can change with it.

Ten of today's entities are members' voluntary liquidations, solvent wind-ups rather than corporate failures. One is Experian Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, ACN 006 980 696.

That company appears across ASIC published notices under three different appointment types: Creditors' Voluntary Liquidation, Court Liquidation and Members' Voluntary Liquidation. Our own pipeline followed the May label and recorded a new distress entry. That was wrong.

We traced the Experian and illion entities behind the notices, confirmed that Experian's Australian credit-reporting business sits in a separate company not included in these wind-ups, and examined what the conflicting labels mean for anyone relying on that field.

Separately, the standing watch on ACFS resolved. ACFS Port Logistics Pty Limited, ACN 603 120 047, entered voluntary administration on 6 August with ACFS Investments 1 Pty Ltd, ACN 606 588 256, and TZI 1 Pty Ltd as trustee for the Australian Container Freight Services Trust, ACN 076 905 550. Sule Arnautovic, Jessica Perri and Anthony Elkerton are administrators of all three.

Two notices carry that appointment and they are not identical. The one covering the two operating companies records a secondary status of Receiver and Manager Appointed. The one covering the trustee records none. That is a difference in the published notices, not proof that no receiver exists over the trustee.

Both notices name the appointor under section 436C: a person entitled to enforce a security interest in the whole, or substantially the whole of the property of the Company. That is a secured party appointing administrators, not the directors under section 436A.

This publication carried two ACFS winding-up applications on 29 and 30 July, the second listed in the Federal Court for 7 August. The administration took effect on 6 August, the day before that listing. Insolvency Insider Australia reports the matter adjourned to 21 August, and the register carries no disposal notice. An administration does not by itself end a winding-up application.

One other notice deserves a line. NewSat Limited, ACN 003 237 303, the Australian satellite venture, was placed in liquidation on 7 August 2015. Today it published its first and final dividend notice, eleven years and three days later. Proofs are due 26 August.

ASIC published 122 notices covering 148 entities. 5 notices named more than one company, expanding the source material to 153 company rows. The 148 entities reconcile exactly:

46 plus 27 plus 25 plus 40 plus 10 is 148. JAGA and Zen account for 30 of the 40 transitions. A single count of the day would report 148 entities where the register supports 46 new distress entries.

Thirty companies changed state on one day. In the JAGA filing, even knowing the pub's name may not tell you which company you're looking for.

Renaming a company is ordinary and lawful, and this is not a criticism of anybody. The consequence is only this: a search on a name resolves to whatever holds that name today, and liabilities do not move when names do.

What the evidence does not establish: any ownership between the eighteen beyond the shared filing and liquidators, why any group reached this point, or what any creditor will recover.

The name gets you close. The ACN tells you who. The process tells you what happened.
