Search "Candlefox administration" and the story looks simple.

Four companies entered administration in July 2022. Two carried Candlefox in their names. David Ross and David Ingram were appointed. By May 2023, ASIC was recording all four as subject to a deed of company arrangement.

Now Candlefox is in administration again.

But not the same company.

Candlefox Group Pty Ltd, ACN 661 807 709, is the company in administration this time. It did not exist when the 2022 process began. It was registered on 18 August 2022. One day later, creditors of the four companies already in administration met to decide what happened next.

Four years on, Candlefox Group's own terms identify it as the company trading as training.com.au.

And Ross and Ingram are back.

Candlefox Group Pty Ltd entered voluntary administration on 28 August 2026.

Its first creditors' meeting is on 9 September. Creditors can consider whether to replace the administrators and whether to form a committee of inspection. The company's future is decided at a later second meeting, which has not yet been notified.

The ASIC notice says nothing about whether training.com.au or Candlefox's other websites are continuing to trade.

David Ross and David Ingram of I & R Advisory were appointed to all four.

Creditors of all four met on 19 August 2022. By 18 May 2023, ASIC was recording all four as subject to a deed of company arrangement, with Ross as deed administrator. ASIC deregistered the two Candlefox-named companies on 3 December 2025.

18 August 2022. Candlefox Group Pty Ltd is registered, at the same postcode as the two Candlefox-named companies above.

19 August 2022. Creditors of the four companies in the earlier administration meet.

1 September 2022. Candlefox Group notifies UK Companies House that it holds 75 per cent or more of the shares and voting rights in Candlefox Limited, company number 11182409, with the right to appoint or remove its directors.

Those dates sit close together. They do not say why. Nothing on the public registers establishes that the operating business was sold to Candlefox Group, that assets moved through the administration, or that the new company was created for that purpose.

What they do establish is simpler: the company now in administration appeared while the earlier Candlefox process was still running. Within two weeks, it controlled Candlefox's UK company.

ASIC calls it Candlefox Group Pty Ltd. Students and education providers are more likely to know the websites.

The terms of training.com.au, shortcourses.com.au and universitycourses.com.au each identify Candlefox Group Pty Ltd, ACN 661 807 709, as the company trading through that site. The .au registry puts the same ACN behind those domains, along with tafecourses.com.au and candlefox.com.au.

Candlefox currently says it operates six education-marketplace brands across four countries, with more than 240 institutions and a team of more than 60. Those are its own figures.

Candlefox says it has 12 years of operating history. The company now in administration is four years old. The brand is older than the legal entity carrying it.

The public registers connect different pieces of the current Candlefox perimeter to Candlefox Group at different dates.

The two CANDLEFOX trade marks were filed on 5 June 2019 by Candlefox Holdings Pty Limited, one of the companies in the 2022 administration. They did not move to Candlefox Group until 23 May 2024.

No single date in the public registers puts the current Candlefox perimeter under the new company. UK control is recorded in September 2022. The registered CANDLEFOX trade marks moved in May 2024. The websites point to Candlefox Group now. What happened to customer contracts, employees, goodwill or the rest of the operating business is not recorded in those registers, and the terms of the 2022 deed are not published.

On 28 August 2026, Candlefox Group appointed David Ross and David Ingram as administrators under s436A.

Same two administrators. Different company.

Its first creditors' meeting is on 9 September 2026 at 10:00am AEST, by teleconference. Proofs of debt and proxies are due by 5:00pm on 8 September.

Candlefox Limited in the UK remains active; Companies House records a confirmation statement dated 22 May 2026 and no insolvency notice. The Australian appointment notice says nothing about it.

There is also Candlefox Ventures Pty Ltd, ACN 618 486 865. It is registered, has no ABN, and is not in administration. Nothing on the public registers places it in either insolvency process.

Four Australian companies have carried the Candlefox name. Three have been in administration, across two processes four years apart. The 2022 process also included Now Hiring and Ulleo, which did not carry the name.

The company behind training.com.au did not exist when the earlier administration began. It appeared while that process was still running. It took control of Candlefox's UK company within two weeks. The CANDLEFOX trade marks followed in 2024. Now the same two administrators are back.

Search by brand and it collapses into one word: Candlefox.

The register does not.

Two South Australian companies entered voluntary administration on 31 August, with Tim Mableson and Ned Swifte appointed to both.

Blackburn Inwood No.1 Pty Ltd, ACN 623 015 725, was formerly called Recycling Plastics Australia Pty Ltd. Recycling Plastics Australia Pty Ltd, ACN 629 404 575, was formerly called Recycling Plastics Australia 2 Pty Ltd.

The "2" disappeared. The ACN did not.

A contract reading "Recycling Plastics Australia Pty Ltd" may resolve to a different company depending on when it was signed. ASIC's register records the former names but not the date of the change.

Three companies that entered voluntary administration on 22 May 2026 moved into creditors' voluntary liquidation on 31 August, with Antony Resnick and Henry Kwok appointed liquidators: Stateside Sports Australia Pty Ltd, ACN 619 409 255; Atlantic Brands Pty Limited, ACN 002 694 877; and Circling Sky Pty Ltd, ACN 614 017 631.

Atlantic Brands was formerly T J Maxx Pty Ltd and holds the business name UCLA Clothing. The notice records Atlantic Brands and Circling Sky trading as Stateside Sports Retail through two trusts, each with receivers and managers appointed.

Three months. Three companies. One name on the shopfront.

The Deputy Commissioner of Taxation applied to wind up Western Mining Solutions Pty Ltd, ACN 146 104 181, of Lithgow, on 11 August. Seventeen days later, on 28 August, the company appointed Daniel Frisken as voluntary administrator.

Read the application alone and you miss the administration. Read the administration notice alone and you miss the court proceeding already underway.

The application, Federal Court action NSD1456/2026, remains listed for 9:30am on 22 September. The appointment does not make it disappear. Under s440A(2), the court is to adjourn a winding-up hearing if satisfied that continuing the administration is in creditors' interests. The first creditors' meeting is on 9 September. The second has not yet been notified.

Across 535 publication days of captured ASIC notices, 17 of 23,024 entities carrying a distress appearance have had a winding-up application and an insolvency appointment published on the same day.

There is another trap in the name. Search Western Mining Solutions and the first result is Western Mining Services Pty Ltd, ACN 124 781 755, a different company in Western Australia.

That gap is the whole product. Get the register that separates them.

ASIC published 118 notices covering 114 entities:

A winding-up application asks a court for an order; it does not mean the company has been wound up. A members' voluntary liquidation is ordinarily a solvent process.

One of 114.

The name was public. The legal entity was easy to get wrong. ASIC published 118 notices covering 114 entities on 1 September. Candlefox Group was one of them.
