International Raw Materials Pty Ltd, ACN 087 879 801, was put into court liquidation on 22 September. Jack James and Paula Smith of Rodgers Reidy were appointed liquidators.

On its own that is one company among dozens entering an insolvent process in this issue.

The interesting part starts with an address.

23 Office Road, Kwinana Beach.

International Raw Materials put that address on its own Australian product literature. Follow the address backwards and a different fertiliser company appears.

Then that company seems to disappear.

It has not.

Start in 2005

Australia's trade mark register records Superfert Pty Ltd filing a fertiliser mark called ZincForce on 25 July 2005. Class 1: chemical product, fertiliser. The same owner filed Urea Gold and Victory years later.

Between those filings sits a government document that uses a different company name.

In 2008, WA WorkSafe described Interpact Pty Ltd, ACN 062 577 539, as a company specialising in fertiliser production at the same address.

That document also makes clear what 23 Office Road actually was. Truckloads of fertiliser tipped into a large intake pit. A conveyor carried the product above concrete storage bays. A movable tipper directed it into those bays before the fertiliser was blended and dispatched.

Not a registered office borrowed by some other business. A working fertiliser plant.

At first glance that creates a problem.

The trade mark register says Superfert. WorkSafe says Interpact.

SUPERFERT does not appear once on ASIC's current company register.

It looks like the company is gone.

One ACN, four names

It is not gone. ASIC's former-names register resolves Superfert to ACN 062 577 539, and that ACN was registered as at ASIC's September 2026 extract. Its current legal name is INTERPACT PTY LTD.

ASIC records three former names against it:

  • SUPERFERT PTY LTD

  • INTERPACT HOLDINGS PTY. LTD.

  • AUSFERT HOLDINGS PTY. LIMITED

So the trade mark filings by Superfert and the WorkSafe record for Interpact are not two separate companies that happened to occupy the same fertiliser plant. ASIC resolves both names to one ACN.

There is a limit worth stating. ASIC attaches the same rename date to all three former names, so that field cannot tell you when the company used each one. The government documents show why it matters: WorkSafe called it Interpact in 2008, and the trade mark register was still recording Superfert as the owner filing new marks in 2011.

The identity resolves. The naming chronology does not.

The registered brand died even though the company did not

Here is the part that makes the point concrete.

IP Australia tells the same story another way. The Superfert portfolio carries zero registered marks and zero pending applications.

Behind that zero sit 46 historical applications: 14 registrations later removed after renewals went unpaid, and 32 that did not reach registration.

ZincForce is the concrete case. It was entered on the register in March 2006 and removed when its renewal fell due in July 2015. SuperGyp, SuperGold, SuperSpray, SuperSeed, SuperTill, Nitro-S, Phenomena, PolyLock, Thumper, Urea Gold and Victory went the same way.

Two marks in that family, triumph and Succeed, are owned by a differently named company again: Superfert Dongbu Pty Ltd.

The company survived the name. Superfert does not appear on ASIC's current company register, and IP Australia records no registered or pending Superfert trade mark. ACN 062 577 539 is still registered, as Interpact Pty Ltd.

So a supplier checking this counterparty by brand finds a dead trade mark portfolio and no current company under that name. A supplier checking by ACN finds a company that is registered right now.

That is the whole difference, and it is worth about twenty years of history.

Then another company appears at the address

International Raw Materials is not a newly created company. ASIC registered it in June 1999 and it has held an ABN since 2000.

By October 2018 its own product sheet places it at 23 Office Road, Kwinana Beach, as supplier of WesternStandard Crystalline Ammonium Sulfate. The manufacturer named on that sheet is BHP Billiton Nickel West Pty Ltd, Patterson Road, Kwinana.

So a second fertiliser company was documented at the same address where government records had placed the Superfert and Interpact company years earlier.

What is not established is how it got there. Nothing in ASIC's registers, the trade mark register or the government records tied to that address shows that International Raw Materials bought Interpact, took an assignment of anything, acquired a business, or owned the land. Interpact is still registered.

What the records do establish is narrower. One Kwinana address stayed tied to fertiliser businesses across different companies and different names for more than twenty years.

Then one of its documented manufacturers stopped operating

The manufacturer on that 2018 specification was BHP's Nickel West operation in Kwinana.

In July 2024 BHP announced that Western Australia Nickel, including the Kwinana Nickel Refinery, would be temporarily suspended from October that year, citing global nickel oversupply. One line of that announcement matters here: BHP said it would work with business partners to mitigate adverse supply-chain effects, including for domestic users of by-products affected by the suspension.

BHP's current materials still describe Western Australia Nickel as temporarily suspended, with the decision due for review by February 2027.

None of that means the suspension caused this insolvency. Nothing establishes it. International Raw Materials could have sourced other products, changed suppliers, or run other parts of its business independently.

But the dates sit next to each other. A product the company documented as part of its Australian fertiliser business came from a Kwinana operation that stopped processing in late 2024. Less than two years later the Australian company is in court liquidation.

One thread this issue does not close

The liquidation is not the first insolvency filing about this company.

ASIC published a notice on 26 August recording that J.J. Hawkins & Co. Pty Ltd commenced a winding-up application against International Raw Materials on 20 August. The matter is WAD 294/2026 in the Federal Court of Australia, listed for hearing at 9.30am on 22 September.

The winding-up order was made on 22 September.

Joining those two events is tempting and the notices do not let you do it. The application notice says the Federal Court. The liquidation notice records the appointing court as the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Those are different courts, and ASIC's own notices are where the difference appears.

It may be a court field filled in wrongly on one of the two notices. It may be that another part of the court record is not in the notices at all. Either way, two ASIC notices that disagree about which court made an order are not a chain, so this issue treats them separately.

One more caution on the applicant. The notice names J.J. Hawkins & Co. Pty Ltd and prints no ACN for it. Three similarly named companies sit on ASIC's register: J.J. HAWKINS & CO. PTY LTD, JJ HAWKINS PTY LTD and HAWKINS & CO PTY LTD. The name on the notice matches the first exactly, which is a clean match, but it is a name match and the notice supplies no identifier of its own.

What actually disappeared

In 2005, Superfert Pty Ltd was filing fertiliser marks from 23 Office Road. In 2008, WorkSafe described Interpact Pty Ltd operating a physical fertiliser plant there. In 2011, the trade mark register was still recording Superfert as the filing owner.

Superfert appears nowhere on ASIC's current company register, and none of its 46 trade marks is live.

Resolve the former name instead and the company reappears. ACN 062 577 539. Interpact Pty Ltd. Still registered.

Years later International Raw Materials documented itself supplying BHP-manufactured fertiliser from the same address. Then BHP suspended the Kwinana operation that manufactured one of those products. On 22 September, International Raw Materials went into court liquidation.

None of that proves what caused this insolvency.

It shows something simpler, and more useful before the next credit decision. A company can disappear under the name you know and still be sitting on the register under the same ACN.

The register in 60 seconds

ASIC published notices concerning 122 entities on the day, across 127 notices. 50 are newly published distress entries: a company entering an insolvent process, disclosed in this issue. The remaining 72 are:

  • 21 winding-up applications, which ask a court for an order and are not findings of insolvency

  • 25 procedural filings on cases already open: meetings, dividends, proof deadlines and disclaimers

  • 13 companies already inside a process that moved stage, such as an administration converting to liquidation

  • 13 members' voluntary liquidations, which are solvent and not failures at all

  • 0 vacancies filled, where the process continues with a new practitioner

Treating every entity on the day's register as a new distress event would report 122 where the resolved register supports 50 newly published distress entries.

Newly published distress

The register carried 50 newly published distress entries. Those carrying a former or trading name are listed first. Dates are from the notice.

Money at stake with a company in this issue?

International Raw Materials Pty Ltd is in court liquidation. If a company you deal with has entered administration or liquidation, our creditor guide explains the public-record steps and how to identify the correct legal entity, which is the question this issue is about. Each route is keyed to how the money is at stake, every statement links to its official source, and the entity lookup is free.

We publish public-record information, not advice. Where a company is in an external administration, the appointed practitioner is the authoritative source on that matter.

Bottom line

If your counterparty list is keyed on company names, run this test on it. Take a supplier you have not transacted with for a few years and search the name you have on file against ASIC's current register. A nil result does not mean the company is gone. It can mean the company renamed and your file did not.

The fix is not a better search. It is storing the ACN alongside the name at onboarding, and matching on the ACN afterwards. Superfert does not appear on ASIC's current company register. ACN 062 577 539 resolves to a registered company.

The notices behind this issue are on ASIC's published notices register.
