CNC Components Pty Ltd, ACN 105 519 739, went into creditors' voluntary liquidation on 28 September. Its members resolved at a general meeting that day to wind the company up, and appointed Declan Lane of Helios Advisory as liquidator.
That is all the notice says.
It does not say that two years ago, CNC won a fight at the Patent Office over who was entitled to a steering invention.
It does not say that the company it beat went into receivership and liquidation in March.
And it does not say that the liquidator appointed to that company in March was also Declan Lane.

The patent fight
In May 2021, two patent filings were lodged for a steering transfer assembly, a gearbox-based system for moving a vehicle's steering from one side to the other. The patent's own background describes the problem it addresses: converting a vehicle between left-hand and right-hand drive, which it says "can be expensive and can require specialised engineering".
The applicant was SCD American Vehicles Pty Ltd.
CNC Components challenged that. In a decision dated 15 May 2024, the Patent Office allowed CNC's request. IP Australia's register now names CNC Components Pty Ltd on both filings, and IP Australia published the innovation patent's certification in April 2025.
CNC had also been building around the invention. In June 2023, while the dispute was still running, it registered nine designs for the assembly and its parts: column adapters, a column nut, intermediate adapters and a shaft coupler.
The other side went first
SCD American Vehicles, the name on the patent filings, had changed its name to SCD Remanufactured Vehicles Pty Ltd in 2021.
On 17 March 2026, a receiver and manager was appointed to SCD Remanufactured Vehicles, and the company went into creditors' voluntary liquidation the same day. Declan Lane was appointed its liquidator.
BOSSCAP Group Pty Ltd, which a federal jobs-site profile describes as SCD's parent company, had the same receiver appointed that day. It went into voluntary administration with Declan Lane as administrator, and into liquidation on 28 April with Declan Lane as liquidator.
One liquidator, both sides
On 28 September, CNC Components appointed Declan Lane as its liquidator.
So the company that won the patent fight, and the company it won it from, are now both in liquidation with the same liquidator.
The public record does not show whether the two estates have any dealings with each other, or what the liquidator intends for the patent. It does show that the same liquidator is now appointed to both companies on either side of the old dispute. Sharing a liquidator does not show that the two insolvencies are connected.
What is left of the patent estate
Two of CNC's three steering patent filings have lapsed. On 29 April 2026, the standard application and a further application CNC filed in 2024 both lapsed. IP Australia's record gives the reason: the applicant "did not ask for an examination within the prescribed time."
What remains is the certified innovation patent, whose term can run to 13 May 2029 if renewal fees are paid, and the nine registered designs. IP Australia's record shows the patent's renewal fees paid to 13 May 2026, a renewal notice issued in March, and no later payment. Its data records no licence and no security interest over any of CNC's steering rights.
Every live intellectual property right registered to CNC is for the same steering system: one patent and nine designs.
A company, a trust and one name
The company in liquidation, CNC Components Pty Ltd, was registered on 14 July 2003. The Australian Business Register records its own ABN as cancelled from that same day.
From the next day, 15 July 2003, a different ABN has been active for The Trustee for Young Family Trust. The business register lists "CNC COMPONENTS PTY LTD" as that trust's trading name, a field it stopped updating in 2012.
The register does not identify the trustee, and it has not been established that CNC Components Pty Ltd held that role.
The government funding records carry both names.
The Commonwealth's Manufacturing Modernisation Fund recipient lists name CNC Components Pty Ltd for a project called Next Level CNC Machining, with funding offers of $260,000 and $100,000 against a total project investment of $1.04 million.
The Department of Industry's 2019-20 report on grants and contracts names the contractor for the CNC Components project as The Trustee for Young Family Trust, for $286,000 including GST, starting in June 2020. The report gives no ABN, and more than 160 active ABNs on the business register carry that exact trust name.
The patent and the designs are registered to CNC Components Pty Ltd. Whether the company held them in its own right or as a trustee is not stated in the public record. That distinction can affect which assets are available to which creditors. The public record does not resolve it.
What a creditor needs to establish
CNC's website still advertises precision engineering from 47 Kremzow Road, Brendale, and still invites requests for quotes. It does not name a legal entity, and a live website does not establish that any CNC entity is still trading.
It has not been established which entity owns the machines, employs the staff, issued the invoices or holds the receivables. Nor has it been established whether the trust traded the business, or what arrangement, if any, existed between the trust and the company.
For anyone who supplied, bought from or lent to "CNC Components", the first question is who your counterparty was: the company in its own right, or a trustee acting for the trust. For a creditor, the legal entity named on the invoice, contract or purchase order matters more than the brand on the website.
The notice gives a company name, an ACN, a process and a liquidator. It does not mention the patent fight, the liquidation on the other side of it, the shared liquidator, the lapsed applications or the trust that carries the CNC name.
Sometimes the insolvency notice is the story. Sometimes it is only the first line.
The notice behind this story is on ASIC's published notices register.

The register in 60 seconds

ASIC published notices concerning 114 entities on the day, across 111 notices. 37 are newly published distress entries: a company entering an insolvent process, disclosed in this issue. The remaining 77 are:
43 winding-up applications, which ask a court for an order and are not findings of insolvency
12 procedural filings on cases already open: meetings, dividends, proof deadlines and disclaimers
9 companies already inside a process that moved stage, such as an administration converting to liquidation
13 members' voluntary liquidations, which are solvent and not failures at all
0 vacancies filled, where the process continues with a new practitioner
Treating every entity on the day's register as a new distress event would report 114 where the resolved register supports 37 newly published distress entries.

The register carried 37 newly published distress entries. Those carrying a former or trading name are listed first. Dates are from the notice.
